Solstices are the days of the year with the longest and shortest periods of daylight.
The summer solstice happens between June 20 – 22 each year with the longest daylight time which marks the first day of summer. The winter solstice happens between December 20 – 22 each year with the shortest daylight of the year and marks the first day of winter.
